This is a quality, rare item, a pair of matching layered, girl's furisode from the Taisho Era. The outer purple kimono has label inside, H.INOUE DAIMARU KYOTO. Daimaru is a department store opened in Kyoto in April 1920. The precursor of the Japanese department stores was the kimono store. The name H.INOUE is probably the makers name. Both kimono are made from rinzu silk and there are 5 Paulownia Mon present on each. The design of the phoenix on the outer kimono has tiny highlights of embroidery and also tiny gold decorations all over the piece. The design on the kimono continues inside the lower lining on both kimono and the upper lining is red silk, dyed with safflower. A wonderful, rare collector's item ! To see more photos of the under kimono see C2957
