This is a lovely fushimi doll from the Taisho Era. It is a rare subject, woman with baby. These dolls are made of clay and were first made as traditional crafts around the Nagano area, Northern Honshu. They were then sent to all areas of Japan. They were thought of as a talisman for good luck and sometimes left at the local temples in the hopes of good health and good harvest. The lady is wearing a kimono very typical of the time, 1912-1926 Wonderful folk item for the collector or to display !
