Very Good for the age, there are a few slight stains and some patinas of age, see photos. The blue dye has coloured the flag slightly overall. There are no holes.
This is a lovely nobori flag in medium weight cotton from the first half of the twentieth century. The design is tsutsugaki technique of Princess Yaegiri with her son Kintaro fighting his tame bear friend. Kintaro is famous in Japanese legend, a child of super human strength who later became a retainer to samurai Minamoto no Yorimitsu. The Mon at the top of the flag is the Ume (Plum Blossom) Mon. These flags are put on show for the Boy's Day (now called Children's Day) celebrations on May 5th. Wonderful to display or collect!
