Very Good, excellent for a rare set like this. The dounuki has a few small pinholes and slight wear on the collar. The outer kimono has slight wear on the collar and some light marks on the cream silk lining, these are mostly on the lining of the collar.
This is a lovely dounuki and kimono set, very rare to find both kimono and in very good condition. The dounuki main fabric is heavyweight silk crepe, the same fabric as the outer kimono. The woven design of delicate ferns at the hem is the same on the dounuki and outer kimono. The upper fabric of the dounuki is thin silk with all over itajime technique, design of cranes, pines and chrysanthemums. Itajime is a technique where thin silk is folded numerous times and sandwiched between two wooden boards on which the design has been carved. There are holes in the wooden box into which dye is poured to pick up the carved design. The upper lining of the dounuki is red smooth silk. The outer kimono has 5 large woven Mon, the Tsuta (Ivy) Mon. The upper lining is cream silk. Collector's item !
