Description:

Carving is a traditional art of the Ainu people from Northern Japan. Here are a pair of carvings, a man and a woman in traditional ceremonial costumes. The are called Nipopo, which means ' small wooden doll' In the past shamens used abstract wooden figures as amulets to ward off childhood diseases. Wonderful collector's item!
