This is a fabulous book about fabulous textiles, the indigo and sashiko fishermen's coats, made by the women of Awaji Island, Japan, for their husbands, sons, grandsons. The book gives a history of the textiles and the fishing communities, as well as geographical information. The photographs are mainly colour plates, with a catalogue of 20 superb fisherman's coats, in the second half of the book. It is a must have for those interested in Japanese Folk Textiles
