TOKYO SONATA 2008 BLURAY CAPSULE REVIEW

Kiyoshi Kurosawa moves away from genre and delivers a naturalistic portrait of a Japanese family under duress, problem is we've all seen it before in films such as Sogo Ishii's Crazy Family
or Juzo Itami's The Family Game or the film that took the genre over the edge Takashi Miike's crazy remake of Pasolini's Theorem - Visitor Q.

Tokyo Sonata seems too sedate, too much of a backward step for a film maker who was creating a stunning selection of minimal horror thrillers over the years, including the masterpiece
that is Cure (1997) a film which was thankfully ignored by Hollywood but unfortunately never released in the UK.

2/5
